Canine Upper Respiratory Illnesses
Suggested precautions for students and dogs in Session 1.
  • If your dog has been exposed to a dog with upper respiratory illness, quarantine your dog for two weeks. The owner can still come to class and watch the others practice. They should not touch the other dogs in class.

  • Do not take your dog to any areas where other dogs will be gathering such as dog parks, day care or special gatherings of friends or family who bring dogs. It's spread by touch. We all know how much our dogs love to put their noses on the ground and other places.

  • If your dog has symptoms (coughing, sneezing and nasal discharge) and was exposed to a dog with upper respiratory illness, quarantine your dog for at least two weeks until the symptoms have passed. Check with your veterinarian if the dog is symptomatic and appears to be getting worse.

Hidden Valley Obedience Club of North San Diego County, Inc., was founded in 1986 with a mission to promote responsible ownership of companion dogs and participation in dog obedience sport activities.  HVOC advocates positive communication, care and training of companion dogs by promoting maximum physical and mental well-being of the dog with proper fit into the family environment.

All levels of classes, from puppy through utility, are taught by the Club's members on a volunteer basis.  Club instructors frequently update their skills through attendance at continuing education classes and seminars.  Most have earned multiple titles in obedience competition and several are members of the National Association of Obedience Instructors (NADOI) and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).  The club also provides testing for the AKC's Canine Good Citizenship program on a regular basis.

HVOC conducts an annual AKC-licensed obedience trial in June, and regularly participates in canine education and demonstrations for community events.

Class Information

Training classes are held every Tuesday and Wednesday evening either at 6 or 7:00 PM.  All classes are held at HVOC's training grounds, which are completely fenced and lit at night.  Classes are 7 weeks long and are 45-60 minutes long.  The only exception is the first class for Puppies and Beginner Level I, which is an orientation class on a Saturday that is two hours long.  No dogs allowed at the orientation.  Please consult the schedule for exact start times for each class.  Find a class that's right for you on the Classes page and then register online at the Class Registration page.
